10 things humans do wrong at dog parks

7 . Allowing dogs to bully other dogs.

You may think it's cute when your dog bounces on another dog, but that's not the case. Learn when the game moves are cute and endearing, and socially appropriate for dogs, and when they are simply indifferent and rude. A close range arc is nice. A tag and run request is nice. But constantly biting another dog's neck and biting it to try to make a fighting game is hateful. Especially when the dog on the other side does not feel comfortable with it. If your dog gets too rough or rude with a dog he does not like, it's time to call your dog and leave him alone. If you do not, you ask for a fight between the dogs, or you shout at the owner of the poor dog who is being bullied.

8 . Letting the dogs 'work it out.

f it does not work. Many people in dog parks think that if they leave dogs alone, they will go through any social drama. Dogs can be good for work, but dogs that meet for the first time in a stimulating environment are not on the best track to resolve differences. If a dog is picked up, or if there are signs of displeasure between two dogs, it is up to the humans to intervene and keep everyone fluffy and happy. A perfect example of this is when a dog tries to mount another dog in a domain display and passes as "determine the chain of command". No, this dog is being rude, according to human standards and dogs. If your dog needs to ride other dogs to understand where it is on the totem pole, then dog parks are not the best place for your dog and a little training is in order. If there is another dog in the park that does this to your dog, separate the dogs and leave the park. Being surrounded by such a dog is not worth the potential problem. Being surrounded by owners who think that dogs should be left alone to "work" is not worth it

9. Bringing dogs that have resource-guarding problems.

Dogs who do not like to share toys, or who like to steal toys and accumulate them, will not have fun in a dog park. Not only that, but this type of dog is also a potential danger for other dogs who want to play with toys and do not take their signals to go back. It goes beyond toys, too. Dog treats are common in dog parks and a dog that protects the resources that catch the smell will save this food resource against other dogs with different levels of aggression (even if the treats are still in your pocket!) Some dogs are rescued resources a new level protecting the dog with which they play, or even their own human being. If your dog has a problem with resource protection, the dog park is not a safe place to play.

10 . Spending more time looking at a smartphone screen than at the dogs

In the same way that the cat with other humans should not have priority over surveillance dogs, a smartphone should not become a distraction either. Unfortunately, I've seen people walk into the dog park and watch their phones all the time while their dog is wreaking havoc in the park or, even sadder, the dog stops there, watching the human absorbed by the phone, wondering that I'll never play . Dogs know when you are mentally disconnected and can often take advantage of this, breaking the rules because they know they can do it. Do not make other dog owners have to take care of your dog because you are texting or tweeting or posting a picture of your cute dog on Instagram. Think about how to send SMS and driving: you can wait.
