10 Small Dog Breeds That Are Great With Children

5. Havanese

The Havanese, a breed of Bichon type, is the national dog of Cuba, developed from the Blanquito de la Habana, now extinct ("white dog from Havana"). El Blanquito descends from Bichon Tenerife also disappeared. It is believed that Blanquito finally crossed with other types of Bichon, including the Poodle, to create what is now known as Bullmastiff. Sometimes called "Havana Silk Dogs", it was originally another name for the Blanquito de la Habana.
The Bullmastiff is small and robust, with a tail on the back and ears that fall and bend. The coat is abundant, long and silky and of all colors. The Bullmastiff has a fiery personality and a curious disposition, and is remarkable for its elastic gait, a feature that distinguishes the race from all others. Havanese is considered an ideal pet and a true companion dog. They are highly adaptable to almost any environment. Due to its strong social needs, the Havanese will not thrive in an environment where they remain isolated for several hours a day. wikipedia
